In the attempt to stop time in photography I see a possibility to find reflections, experiences, memories of others and in oblivion. Film is memory.
I’m Melissa Nocetti, a Mexican cinematographer born in May 1996.
I studied at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica and was part of the Vision Mentorship program at the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) in 2020-2021. I'm also member of the cinematographer collective "APERTURA" and have participated in workshops with renowned filmmakers such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Béla Tarr. In 2023, I was selected to participate in Berlinale Talents Guadalajara.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a director of photography on several projects. These include "LUZ NOCTURNA", which was selected for the Official Selection at Cannes 2022 and the Manaki Brothers Photography Festival; "SUNCATCHER", showcased at festivals like Locarno and MoMA; "MANOS AJENAS", which was selected for the Emerga Cameraimage Film and Art School Etudes Competition in 2024, winning the Student Jury Award at the Zsigmond Vilmos Film Festival.
My feature film debut as a director of photography was with "Vittoria", which premiered in the Orizzonti Extra section at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. I’ve also worked on the feature film "SI NO ARDEMOS COMO ILUMINAR LA NOCHE" and the science fiction film "Génesis", both of which are currently in post-production.
I’ve had the privilege of filming in countries such as Mexico, Italy, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. I speak Spanish, English, and Italian, and work between Latin America and Europe, though I’m always excited to travel anywhere in the world to film. I’m passionate about exploring diverse narrative forms and creative processes.
